Eisenhower Carrier Group Sets Sail for Iran

The Eisenhower Carrier Group set sail for the waters off Iran on Oct 2, 2006. It is expected to arrive in the Persian Gulf around Oct 21, roughly the same time as a second flotilla of minesweepers and other ships.

The carrier is sent to the Persian Gulf along with a cruiser, destroyer, frigate, submarine escort and a supply ship. The Eisenhower is a strike group armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles:
